Program Description

This presentation explores medical forensic examination cases conducted by a forensic healthcare examiner (FHE). An FHE provides specialized care for the patient who presents for medical forensic health care for known or suspected maltreatment or abuse. The FHE is instructed to provide reliable, evidence-based medical forensic health care to all patients requiring an examination. Through the use of case review, the FHE can educate themselves about assessment, treatment, health consequences, health care and forensic care management, challenges and legal consideration of specific cases when available.

Target Audience

Forensic Healthcare Program Personnel to include physicians, nurses, physician assistants, social workers and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Facilitate a case peer review of a redacted Department of Defense (DD) 2911.
  2. Examine the military rules of evidence (M.R.E.) 514.
  3. Identify abortive service options for military personnel and adult beneficiaries.
  4. Examine potential evidence collection considerations for the products of conception.
  5. Discuss forensic healthcare program manager considerations.
  6. Identify patient resources for care following the forensic examination.
