Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, social workers and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain electromagnetic radiation and its interaction with human eyes and skin.
  2. Identify the wavelengths at which certain substances tend to fluoresce and absorb.
  3. Outline types of ALS.
  4. Analyze ALS equipment.
  5. Examine ALS applications and techniques as a tool in the medical forensic examination.
  6. Describe conditions/normal variances that could cause fluorescence and contrast under ALS.
  7. Summarize the advantages of using ALS in medical forensic examination process.
  8. Discuss research that supports the use ALS a forensic tool.
  9. Describe the process to utilize ALS competently in examination.
  10. Illustrate the case law that supports ALS as a scientific method.
