DHA: CQM Fundamentals for the DHA Workforce

This essential training focuses on the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Clinical Quality Management (CQM) program. It provides a robust framework of foundational quality and patient safety principles specifically for the DHA workforce and professionals throughout the Military Health System (MHS). The course delivers in-depth insight into critical CQM areas. It explores key programs such as: Patient Safety, Healthcare Risk Management, Credentialing and Privileging, Accreditation and Compliance, Clinical Measurement, and Clinical Quality Improvement. Participants learn how these interconnected programs integrate within the MHS. This knowledge empowers them to promote superior patient safety, reduce risk, and enhance overall care quality across the system. The curriculum also outlines key competencies for effective quality management and equips participants with valuable resources for continued learning and application in their roles.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, psychologists, dietetics, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the DHA Clinical Quality Management program.
  2. Identify the core functions of key CQM programs including Patient Safety, Healthcare Risk Management, Credentialing & Privileging, Accreditation & Compliance, Clinical Measurement, and Clinical Quality Improvement.
  3. Understand the roles and responsibilities involved in credentialing and privileging healthcare providers.
  4. Recognize legal, regulatory, and DHA-specific frameworks supporting quality and risk management.
  5. Apply core competencies including patient safety, evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement, high reliability principles, teamwork, and leadership.
