Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze Patient Safety (PS) directives/principles and the PS Manager (PSM) role.
- Differentiate the roles of military treatment facility (MTF), chief medical officer (CMO), chief nurse officer (CNO) and the PSM.
- Relate previously discussed foundations of PS for Deployed Patient Safety Programs (DPSP).
- Discuss the relationship of our military treatment facility (MTF), PS Program with the Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) System.
- Demonstrate the application of the System Approach to a PS investigation.
- Review investigation methodologies and resources in the Deployed Patient Safety Guide (Tabs 12-15).
- Distinguish between the credentialing actions of a PSM and a Risk Manager (RM).
- Understand the basics of reporting (Event Taxonomies).
- Define the systems approach to the Swiss Cheese and Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) Models.
- Emphasize PS Leadership, i.e., CMO and CNO leadership roles in deployed MTFs to ensure success for the PSM.
