Program Description

This in-person course will the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), an evidence-based approach to treating people suffering from serious thoughts of self-harm. Rates of suicide in the U.S. military populations have a been increasing for most of the first two decades of the 21st century. With changes in generational resilience and communication styles, prescribed DOD suicide risk management tools do not directly provide clinicians a mechanism to address the drivers for suicidality.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for social workers and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate the ability to conduct thorough suicide assessment and develop effective treatment plan.
  2. Discuss the importance of using evidenced based treatment for crisis intervention and suicide specific treatment.
  3. Demonstrate through role play exercises the ability to utilize the CAMS Suicide Status Form and Stabilization Plan to effectively treat suicidal crises.
  4. Develop suicide specific treatment plans to treat identified drivers.
  5. Demonstrate appropriate ways to thoroughly document risk assessment and case notes for working with a suicidal patient.

    Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). DHA, J7, CEPO maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. DHA, J-7, CEPO designated this activity for a maximum of 3.50 CE credits. The instructional level of this activity is intermediate. There is no cost to participate.
  • 3.50 Social Workers (ASWB)

    As a Jointly Accredited Organization, DHA, J7, CEPO is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 3.50 continuing education credits.

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 3.50 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
