ForwardDay 2: Suicide Risk and Postvention, Motivational Interviewing, Personality Disorders in a Healthcare Setting
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for nurses, social workers, and case managers across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Explain suicide risk as well as evidence-informed clinical care pathway.
- Have awareness of suicide risk and protective factors.
- Have knowledge about suicidal behavior, screening for suicide risk, and conducting a risk assessment.
- Anticipate the personal and professional impact of client suicide loss.
- Implement postvention strategies to promote resilience and healing.
- Describe how Motivational Interviewing (MI) supports case management.
- Use core MI skills to reduce discord and increase engagement.
- Identify change talk and respond in a way that strengthens motivation.
- Apply MI skills in virtual encounters.
- Define and describe the characteristics and diagnostic features of Personality Disorders.
- Examine the history, development, and contributing factors associated with Personality Disorders.
- Identify common signs, symptoms, and behavioral patterns associated with Personality Disorders.
- Explain the potential impact of Personality Disorders on unit dynamics, relationships, and mission effectiveness.
- Recognize how individuals with Personality Disorders may present during face-to-face interactions and clinical or workplace encounters.
- Review evidence-informed treatment approaches, practical interventions, and management strategies for supporting individuals with Personality Disorders.
