ForwardDay 2: Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care: Spectrum of Care and Mental Health Technician Perspective
This session reviews the current spectrum of clinical care for Substance Use Disorders, with an emphasis on how Zero Tolerance policies shape patterns of substance use, patient demographics, and resource demands. Also highlighted is the role of Mental Health Technicians as provider extenders in SUD settings.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the impact of Zero Tolerance on patterns of substance abuse in the DoW.
- Discuss the impact of patient demographics resulting from Zero Tolerance on resources available for SUD care in the DoW.
- Examine the potential impact of legalized gambling on public health.
- Demonstrate how MHTs function as essential provider extenders across the full SUD spectrum.
- Review how the Services hold different operational models for utilizing MHTs in SUD care but a common foundation.
