ForwardDay 1: Group Therapy: Developing Programs and Overcoming Resistance
This two-hour session opens with an overview of the essential steps for establishing evidence-based psychotherapy groups in military settings. Participants will learn how to utilize Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) in a group format within a military setting. Additionally, a clinic facing access-to-care challenges shares how they rapidly deployed multiple groups. The session concludes with a review of actionable takeaways and lessons learned for rapid clinical implementation of psychotherapy groups.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

- Enumerate the practical steps for forming a therapeutic group.
- Summarize the benefits of group therapy for participants.
- Discuss why it is important to use evidence-based protocols which been adapted to group format, especially when considering treatment outcomes.
