Internal Behavioral Health Consultant (IBHC) - Motivational and Readiness for Change in Patients with Pain

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of psychologists and social workers who support/ care for U.S. active-duty service members, reservists, National Guardsmen, military veterans and their families.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe one reason why patients may have low readiness to engage in behaviorally-based treatment for chronic pain.
  2. Describe two motivational interviewing strategies to increase motivation and/or readiness for change in patients with chronic pain.
  3. Apply motivational interviewing strategies to discussion of case-based chronic pain clinical scenarios.
