Target Audience
This CE activity is accredited by the DHA J-7 Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, kinesiotherapists, and healthcare executives. Learning Objectives
- Understand recent trends, contributing factors and consequences related to the Opioid Epidemic in the US.
- Identify actions taken at the Federal level in response to the Opioid Epidemic in the US and their impact.
- Describe patterns of opioid use and misuse within the Active Duty service member and beneficiary population.
- Summarize actions undertaken by the DoD in response to opioid use and misuse among ADSM and their beneficiaries to prevent and mitigate its adverse consequences.

Tim Hsu, MD, FAPA Silver Spring, MD | Dr. Timothy Hsu is a licensed physician, is board-certified in psychiatry, and currently serves as a Psychiatry subject matter expert (SME) in the Risk Reduction section, Clinical Care branch, Psychological Health Center of Excellence, Defense Health Agency. Dr. Hsu completed his AB in Biology and Economics at Harvard College and his MD at the College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University. He completed residencies in internal medicine and in psychiatry at Mayo Clinic followed by a clinical fellowship in sleep medicine and a postdoctoral research fellowship in neurobiology at University of Michigan where he then joined the medical school faculty. In addition to clinical practice in psychiatry, Dr. Hsu has worked extensively in new drug development for neurology, psychiatry, sleep and pain in the pharmaceutical industry prior to joining Defense Health Agency. |
