Target Audience
This CE activity is accredited by the DHA J-7 Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, kinesiotherapists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the impact of early access to physical therapy as it relates to utilization of additional healthcare resources, patient outcomes, and cost as well as effect on chronic pain symptoms.
- Distinguish normal pain responses from abnormal pain responses and list strategies to assist patients in understanding the source of these differences.
- Describe a framework where physical therapists, working as part of a collaborative care team, can improve patient outcomes and improve patient independence.
- Outline key aspects of Pain Neuroscience Education and how they can be incorporated into everyday patient interactions.

Army Col. Matt Garber PT, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPT Falls Church, VA | Colonel Matt Garber is the Physical Therapy Consultant to the Army Surgeon General and chairs the Neuromusculoskeletal Clinical Community for the Military Health System. He also serves as the Director, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Division for Army Medicine where he oversees the Physical Performance Service Line, the Traumatic Brain Injury Program, and the Comprehensive Pain Management Program. His military career has included a variety of clinical, teaching, and leadership positions including chairing the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital; Director, Military Health System Governance for the Army; Director of the Army Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship program; and assisting in the development and implementation of the Army Special Operations Command Human Performance Optimization Program. Colonel Garber is a board certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. |
