Beyond the Baby Blues – An Introduction to Perinatal Mental Health and Its Impact on Mission Readiness

This course is intended for civilian entities providing care for Active duty and veteran/retired military family members. The aim is to improve understanding of common trends in perinatal mental health and arm providers and care providing entities with knowledge to better provide care.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, certified counselors, social workers, and psychologists.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize who is part of the perinatal population.
  2. Describe perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
  3. Manage the risk of untreated perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
  4. Discuss additional risk factors for the military population.
  5. Summarize the role of medication in treating the perinatal population.
  6. Apply appropriate assessments to screen for a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder.
  7. Utilize different modalities to treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
