Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses and physician assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify current advances in treatment to improve the mean survival for patients with disseminated disease.
  2. Describe metastatic lesions and other destructive processes affecting bones that predispose the bone to an impending fracture.
  3. Outline non-operative and operative treatment regimens, and the timelines for treatment, and the role they play in altering the natural history of the disease.
  4. Explain how an impending fracture and prophylactic fixation in an elective setting are critical to avoid debilitating complications.
  5. Explain a simple and effective staging system to identify primary malignancies.
