- Describe the most common causes of nipple soreness.
- Discuss management techniques for breasts and nipple problems.
- Identify possible indications for supplementation of the breastfed infant.
- Explain the methods for teaching hand expression and using various types of breast pumps.

- Demonstrate alternative feeding methods for feeding expressed milk.
- Recognize three pre-discharge breastfeeding issues requiring follow-up care.
- Select two follow-up resources available for breastfeeding families.
- Describe strategies for continuing breastfeeding.
- List examples of federal or state laws intended to protect breastfeeding.
- Describe the impact of formula marketing on breastfeeding success.
- State the role of breastfeeding in emergencies.
- Examine the evidence for the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
- Explain the process of becoming a “Baby-Friendly” Maternity Care Facility
- Discuss what “Baby-Friendly Practices” means.
