Program Description

This series of Extension of Community Health Outcomes (ECHO) Clinics will cover methods, benefits, and outcomes of sharing specialized Pain management medical knowledge utilizing Project ECHO. The U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Pain Management program worked with University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Project ECHO Office to adapt and replicate the UNM ECHO model in order to synchronize implementation of the Comprehensive Pain Management Campaign Plan (CPMCP) and to provide innovative support to Primary Care.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, psychologists, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and certified counselors.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize the prevalence of the co-occurrence of chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  2. Describe the physical and mental health consequences of having comorbid chronic pain and PTSD.
  3. Explain how chronic pain and PTSD are theorized to mutually maintain one another.
  4. Compare the efficacy of treating each condition separately versus integrated approaches.
