American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Review Course - 2026
This CE/CME course is designed to award CE/CME credit to learners who have already recently completed the Red Cross training course offered through the Department of War (DoW).

Basic Life Support Review Course (2.5 clock hours):
The BLS Review Course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize, and care for patients who are experiencing respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, airway obstruction, or opioid overdose. When a patient experiences a life-threatening emergency, healthcare providers need to act swiftly and promptly. The course emphasizes providing high-quality care and integrating psychomotor skills with critical thinking and problem-solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, psychologists, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, registered dieticians, and dietetic technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Apply concepts of effective teamwork when caring for a patient experiencing a life-threatening emergency.
- Integrate communication, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills during a high-performance BLS team response.
- Apply a systematic, continuous approach to assess, recognize, and care for adults, children and infants experiencing a life-threatening emergency.
- Perform a rapid assessment for responsive and unresponsive adults, children, and infants.
- Manage effective care for adults, children, and infants in respiratory arrest.
- State the principles of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.
- Identify BLS differences among adults, children, and infants.
- Demonstrate high-quality chest compressions for adults, children, and infants.
- Deliver effective ventilations to adults, children and infants using a pocket mask and bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitator.
- Demonstrate effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults, children, and infants.
- Perform high-quality BLS care for adults, children, and infants in single- and multiple-provider situations.
- Deliver effective abdominal thrusts, back blows and chest thrusts for adults, children, and infants with airway obstruction.
- State the principles of care for a patient experiencing an opioid overdose.

DHA J-7 CEPO has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 2.50 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until Thursday, December 31, 2026 - 11:59pm ET. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. Participants may earn 2.50 CE credits for completing this activity.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, DHA, J7, CEPO is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 2.50 General continuing education credits.

In support of improving patient care, DHA, J-7, CEPO is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team. This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 2.50 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
Access Code: After you have completed the Red Cross training through the DoW, the instructor will provide you with the access code. If you did not receive an access code, then please send a copy of your Red Cross digital certificate to [email protected], and we'll provide you with the access code.
Requirements: CE/CME certificates are awarded to participants who fully complete the Red Cross activity and successfully submit the evaluation survey. The deadline to claim credit is Dec 31, 2026.
