ForwardALARNG 2026: Advanced Tactical Medical Care Course – Provider
Medical providers often find themselves faced with the daunting task of providing prolonged field care in austere environments during Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO). This session will explore innovative approaches to managing critical injuries and illnesses for extended periods. Attendees will gain insights into advanced wound care techniques, pain management strategies, and the utilization of telemedicine and remote consultations to bridge the gap between the field and more advanced medical facilities. Additionally, mental health considerations and strategies for maintaining provider resilience will be addressed.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, physician associates/physician assistants, and dental providers. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
- Describe interventions of advanced airway procedures
- Identify immediate field considerations for a hemorrhaging patient
- Describe the major characteristics of blood products and pharmacologic considerations for blood management
- Describe adverse patient reactions to blood transfusion
- Administer Blood products
- Describe the equipment included/needed with the fluid warmer
- Understand how to use the fluid warmer (recommended focus on the Thermal Angel)
- Operate a fluid warmer in accordance with manufacture operating procedures, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Guidelines
- Describe what constitutes a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) environment that would lead to needing to decontaminate casualties
- Describe to process of decontaminating casualties and treatment considerations
- Identify environmental factors in areas of operation that have an affect on military operations (i.e. weather, insects, wildlife)
- Describe ways to mitigate environmental factors that affect military operations
- Describe points of contact that can be helpful in facilitation/support of field sanitation efforts
- Describe how to build a Medical Threat Assessment (to include information about how some theaters are specific regionally)
- Identify the importance of disarming and securing the communications equipment of a casualty with altered mental status
- Demonstrate a Tactical Trauma Assessment using the MARCH PAWS sequence to render aid and interventions to a casualty in Tactical Field Care IAW CoTCCC Guidelines.
- Identify the importance of early application of limb tourniquets to control life-threatening bleeding
- Apply the Principles of Tourniquet Application
- Describe the process of triage and the levels of patient triage categories
- Describe injuries/sicknesses/ method of injury (MOI) that make up each triage level, preform casualty triage operations
- Describe the process of triage and the levels of patient triage categories
- Describe the principles, advantages, and disadvantages of various drags and carries in various stages of casualty care
- Identify and describe considerations and precautions required for evacuating casualties with suspected spinal injuries
- Describe the principles, advantages, and disadvantages of various standard operating litters
- Describe how to use collapsible and non-collapsible standard litters
- Describe how to use standard sled type litters
