Program Description

The Alabama Army National Guard Office of the State Surgeon is excited to present the ALARNG Medical Conference 2023, focusing on Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO), to be held in the picturesque Orange Beach, AL. This conference aims to provide medical providers with insights and strategies to enhance their ability to perform critical tasks and achieve Army Health Care standards in the challenging context of LSCO.

Target Audience

The Provider Track, provides continuing education for physicians, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Estimate burn size based on the Lund-Browder Chart.
  2. Resuscitate using Rule of 10’s and Joint Trauma System’s (JTS) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).
  3. Prevent hypothermia.
  4. Explain indications for and how to perform escharotomies.
  5. Discuss basics of wound care.
  6. Discuss the impact that environmental factors have on children’s health.
  7. Describe airway and anesthesia use with the trauma patient.
  8. Review principles of critical care on battlefield.
  9. Explain appropriate management of battlefield infections.
  10. Define “emergency release” blood.
  11. Review massive transfusion protocols.
  12. Review whole blood use.
  13. Review blood product availability at different roles.
  14. Review classification for fractured teeth and corresponding treatment
  15. Describe the treatment protocol when addressing dental trauma
  16. Review the Army Master Resiliency Program.
  17. Discuss the CDC and Surgeon Generals Program for healthcare providers.
  18. Describe practical techniques for building resiliency in healthcare workers, including sleep hygiene, mindfulness and meditation.
