DHA Opioid Prescriber Safety Training

Program Description

This 3-hour program is an updated version of the 2020 DHA Opioid Prescriber Safety Training (OPST) course integrating the latest guidelines, policies, and issuances related to DHA safe opioid prescribing, substance use disorders, and pain management. The training was designed by DHA subject matter experts to better equip DHA providers and staff with the skills to improve patient outcomes for safe opioid prescribing, substance use disorders, and pain management.

In accordance with DHA-AI 6025.08 and the presidential memo, "Addressing Prescription Drug Abuse and Heroin Use," (October 2015), the DHA OPST is required for all DHA providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical pharmacists, and dentists) who are authorized to prescribe opioids, and optional for other DHA providers and staff (nurses, physical therapists, social workers, and other allied health professionals) supporting opioid safety, pain management, and substance use disorder treatment.

Access the presidential memo here.
