This live event is intended for active duty military, civilian and contractor personnel within the healthcare profession serving military families participating in the Family Advocacy Program. This conference serves as a crucial platform for educating and equipping Family Advocacy Nurse, clinical and administrative professionals to effectively prevent and respond to child abuse, neglect and domestic abuse within the Air Force community. The primary goals of this nursing conference are multifaceted, aiming to enhance the knowledge and skills of attendees.

During this final day of the Family Advocacy Program Assistants and New Parent Support Program Conference the learners will attend sessions which will focus on equipping collaborative leadership, the Family Advocacy Nurse Peer Review and Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for MHS nurses, social workers, and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

The First Sergeant and You – Partnership Makes Progress

  1. Define and provide a better understanding of the First Sergeants’ role and responsibility.
  2. Understand how the First Sergeant receives notifications and what their immediate steps are following an incident
  3. Identify the type of cross-flow communication and understand how the impact on receiving assistance from multiple sources can help a member.

Collaborative Leadership: Developing and Maintaining an Effective New Parent Support Program

  1. Describe the components of collaborative leadership.
  2. Identify how the Family Advocacy Nurse demonstrates collaborative leadership within the community.
  3. Explain how collaborative leadership helps in overcoming barriers to care.

Family Advocacy Nurse Peer Review

  1. Describe the theoretical model of Peer Review
  2. Summarize the importance of a FAN Peer Review Checklist
  3. Discuss which personnel are authorized to generate Peer Review
  4. Identify the resources to facilitate the FAN Peer Review Process through the New Parent Support Program

Beyond the Visit: Unpacking Adverse Childhood Experiences and Building a Brighter Future for Families

  1. Describe Adverse Childhood Experiences
  2. Summarize New Parent Support Program (NPSP) and role in prevention
  3. Describe ACE application as a NPSP home
