2026 DAF FAP and NPSP: Day 1

This live event is intended for active duty military, civilian and contractor personnel within the healthcare profession serving military families participating in the Family Advocacy Program. This conference serves as a crucial platform for educating and equipping Family Advocacy Nurse, clinical and administrative professionals to effectively prevent and respond to child abuse, neglect and domestic abuse within the Air Force community. The primary goals of this nursing conference are multifaceted, aiming to enhance the knowledge and skills of attendees.

During this first day of the Family Advocacy Program Assistants and New Parent Support Program Conference the learners will attend five sessions which will focus on equipping New Parent Support, social workers and administrative staff with a deeper understanding of the Family Advocacy Program mission, challenges, insight and progress. The sessions will also address Family Advocacy Program Assistant and Family Advocacy Nurse roles and responsibilities and review strategies for teamwork, how to complete strength spotting and how to turn obstacles into strengths.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for MHS nurses, social workers and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Family Advocacy Mission

  1. Describe the current role of Family Advocacy Program (FAP) and progress over the past year.
  2. Create strategies for overcoming FAP challenges in the current environment.

Working Within the Team

  1. Identify ways to turn obstacles into strength
  2. Describe how strength spotting helps teams flourish
  3. Identify character strengths of your team
  4. Identify Family Advocacy Program Assistant (FAPA) and Family Advocacy Nurse (FAN) roles and responsibilities/strategies for teamwork

The Intersection of Self-Care and Collaboration

  1. Define burnout and differentiate it from stress, recognizing its root causes and symptoms in a professional environment.
  2. Identify and apply personal strategies to establish healthy work-life boundaries and promote a sustainable rest-recovery cycle.
  3. Summarize a leader’s role in mitigating team burnout through collaborative practices like empathetic leadership, delegation, and open communication.

Digital Abuse: When Technology Becomes a Weapon

  1. Identify multiple modes of digital abuse that may be used in conjunction with interpersonal violence
  2. Explain the basic cyber violence typology and features of cyber stalkers
  3. Describe behavioral and clinical indicators that may signal technology-facilitated coercive control or safety risks
  4. Apply basic safety planning strategies and resources to support victims while minimizing further digital harm

Calm Under Pressure: Crisis De-Escalation for Field and Office Professionals

  1. Describe how neurobiological stress responses influence behavior and communication.
  2. Identify early signs of escalation and levels of activation.
  3. Apply de-escalation strategies to reduce escalation and support regulation.
