Program Description

The symposium’s global objective is to provide the knowledge and tools to allow Behavioral Health Clinicians and other allied practitioners, to execute and sustain effective and efficient approaches to behavioral health care at the MTF and within operational settings. This activity explores best practices in behavioral health treatment interventions, practitioner self-care, and provider readiness. It also discusses the state of Clinical Social Work and Behavioral Health best practices within the dynamic landscape of Military medicine with a focus on operational/embedded mental health care.

Target Audience

This CE/CME activity, accredited by the DHA, J-7, Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO), provides continuing education for physician assistants, social workers, and psychologists.

Learning Objectives

  1. Comprehend the unique challenges and stressors faced by military personnel in embedded settings, including the impact of combat, deployment, and separation from family and support systems.
  2. Summarize military culture, structure, and operational environments to effectively engage with military personnel and understand their needs and experiences.
  3. Discuss distinct operational cultural differences between the AIRPAC, SURFPAC, EOD, and NECC operational communities.
  4. Analyze the ethical and legal considerations specific to military-embedded mental health, including issues related to confidentiality, informed consent, duty to warn, and mandated reporting.
  5. Examine skills and insight into the interdisciplinary collaboration and coordination with other professionals in the military system, such as Commanders/Triads, chaplains, medical personnel, and other community stakeholders, to provide comprehensive care to Service Members in operational settings.

    DHA J-7 CEPO has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 4.00 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Physician assistants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

    Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The DHA, J7, CEPO maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. DHA, J-7, CEPO designated this activity for a maximum of 4.00 CE credits. The instructional level of this activity is intermediate. There is no cost to participate.
  • 4.00 ASWB
    As a Jointly Accredited Organization, DHA J-7 CEPO is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. DHA J-7 CEPO maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive a maximum of 4.00 ASWB continuing education credits.
  • 4.00 IPCE
    This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners can receive up to 4.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change. In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by DHA, J-7, CEPO.
