Heather Hellwig, Pharm.D., B.P.C.S., M.S., F.A.Ph.A.
CDR Heather Hellwig serves as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Section Chief for the Defense Health Agency and also serves as the Navy Pharmacy Assistant Specialty Leader.
CDR Hellwig was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in 2002. Her first assignment was to Bremerton Naval Hospital where she deployed to Rota, Spain as the Pharmacy Lead for Fleet Hospital Eight. Over the next seven years, she led the pharmacies at Branch Health Clinic Bangor, Washington; Branch Health Clinic Iwakuni, Japan; and Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina. After taking a year away from leadership to complete her residency, CDR Hellwig served as the Pharmacy Assistant Chief at the newly opened Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Virginia and in 2013 assisted in the multinational Pacific Partnership Humanitarian Mission. She then served as Pharmacy Department Head and in 2016 became the Director for Clinical Support Services for the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, the nation’s first fully integrated DoD and VA federal facility.
CDR Hellwig earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2002, her Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy from the University of Florida in 2011, and a Graduate Certificate in Global Health and Global Health Engagement from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2020. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice residency at the National Naval Medical Center in 2011, is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, and a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association.
CDR Hellwig’s military awards include one Defense Meritorious Service Medal, one Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals and various service related awards and campaign ribbons.
