MPHRDS: Millennium Cohort Program: Intimate Partner Violence Research

The Military Psychological Health Research Dissemination Series (MPHRDS) is a platform design to present impactful studies and share cutting-edge research and innovative practices in military psychology and mental health with Department of War (DoW) leaders, clinicians, and researchers.

This presentation provides an overview of the Millennium Cohort Program (MCP) and its research on intimate partner violence (IPV) within military populations. It describes the components of the MCP and shares key research findings on the risk and protective factors associated with IPV among service members, veterans, and their families.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, and psychologists, across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the components and objectives of the Millennium Cohort Program (MCP).
  2. Discuss the differential impacts of comorbid mental and behavioral health conditions on risk for intimate partner violence in military populations.
  3. List key risk and protective factors that facilitate the relationship between posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and intimate partner violence (IPV).
  4. Summarize the sex similarities and differences in risk for intimate partner violence.
  5. Review the similarities and differences in risk for intimate partner violence between service-connected and veteran couples.
