JMESI Capstone Course for MHS Leaders, JULY 2026

July 13, 2026 to July 16, 2026

The JMESI Capstone Course is a premier learning event for senior leaders in the Military Health System, featuring top voices like the U.S. Surgeon General, Surgeons General of the uniformed services, and leaders from DHA, the VA, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Speakers share the latest insights on high-impact topics, including military health policy, TRICARE, transformation efforts, high-reliability organizations, and emerging health issues.

Note: the final amount of CE/CME credit awarded for this activity is subject to change. The amount of CE/CME awarded for this July 2026 iteration of the course will be finalized on July 16, 2026.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe Defense Health Agency’s (DHAs) mission, vision, and priorities.
  2. Identify DHA’s expectations of personnel in a clinical supervisory role.
  3. Describe the global mission of Health Care Information Technology (IT) in support of the continuum of care, and the management of thousands of devices, artifacts, and systems by the Program Executive Office for Medical Systems/Chief Information Officer PEO MS/CIO (J-6).
  4. Recognize the difference between misinformation and disinformation.
  5. Analyze the role of quality and safety initiatives, such as external registries (e.g., Leapfrog), HEDIS, and the Ready Reliable Care Safety Communication Bundle, in improving healthcare outcomes.
  6. Explain the DHA strategy and its connection to clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), clinical support studies and publications (CSSPs), and overarching healthcare policies.
  7. Describe High Reliability and Ready Reliable Care (RRC).
  8. Describe Public Health’s role in DHA’s combat mission support.
  9. Identify challenges in managing an entitlement within fiscal constraints
  10. Describe the organizational alignment of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and the specific policy portfolio of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Readiness Policy and Oversight (ODASD(HRP&O)).
  11. Explain the key drivers of the policymaking process, including the development of policies and the role of budgets.
  12. Recognize the interservice collaboration between the Coast Guard, Department of Defense, and DHA.
  13. Analyze the strategies for integrating and coordinating care across local, regional, and global levels.
  14. Describe how MHS GENESIS standardizes clinical and business processes across the services and the Military Health System (MHS).
  15. Describe the key components and goals of the partnership between the Veteran’s Health Affairs and the Department of Defense.
  16. Describe the key support functions for combat support, including protocols for operational and emergency responses, and the process for combat readiness and planning.
  17. Analyze the current challenges and opportunities impacting the Defense Health Program (DHP).
