Shana Miles, M.D., Ph.D.

Col (Dr.) Shana Miles is currently the Gynecologic Surgery and Obstetrics (GS&O) and Lifestyle Medicine Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General. She is assigned to Brooke Army Medical Center as Director of Operations for the FSH Surgical Operations Squadron and GS&O Master Clinician.
Prior to assuming her current assignment, Col Miles served as the Military Program Director for the fully accredited joint University of Nevada-Las Vegas/Nellis AFB GS&O Residency program. She spearheaded maintenance of gynecologic surgical currency as surgical coach and mentor to 13 GS&O physicians. As the Deputy Chief of Surgery, she oversaw 5 operating rooms, 2 hybrid labor and delivery operating rooms, supporting 4,000 surgical cases a year. She was previously the Chief of the Medical Staff of the 2d Medical Group at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. In this capacity she provided oversight for patient safety, quality, and medical care via operations of a fully accredited ambulatory clinic with aerospace medicine, dental, medical, and a 1-year dental residency program.
Dedicated to education, Dr. Miles continues to serve on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Clinical Practice Guidelines-Gynecology Committee and served as Chair of the Editorial Board of Patient Education. She holds the rank of Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University. Her contributions to medical education have been recognized by the Air Force Global Strike Command with the Physician Educator of the Year Award in 2018, the Uniformed Services University with the Deans Faculty Award in 2023, ACOG’s Mentor Award in 2024, and Air Combat Command’s Academic Physician of the Year in 2024.
She was a direct commission to the Air Force as a second lieutenant in 2008 to pursue her graduate studies, earning her Doctor of Philosophy in Emerging Infectious Diseases (2010) and Doctor of Medicine degree (2012) at the Uniformed Services University. She finished a 4-year training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She completed a prestigious 2-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital and a Masters in Medical Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
She holds board certifications through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2017 with a focused practice designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery since 2022 and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine since 2021.
