P3T Manual Therapy Course
The purpose of this course is to empower H2F Performance Teams to feel better equipped to treat pregnant and postpartum patients. 12,000+ Soldiers are pregnant or postpartum, annually. Both of these physical states can come with a variety of musculoskeletal pain and muscle dysfunction. By educating the providers on the H2F Performance teams, these service members will have easier access to care that can help alleviate their pain.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, athletic trainers, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, kinesiotherapists, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Define pregnancy-specific anatomical structures and physiological changes relevant to musculoskeletal pain in pregnant and postpartum soldiers.
- Summarize the left and right limits (contraindications and precautions) for applying common manual therapy modalities to pregnant and postpartum patients.
- Apply new manual therapy techniques suitable for pregnant and postpartum patients.
- Formulate appropriate referral plans, including relevant information for the pelvic health specialist to ensure continuity of care.
