Michael La Fountaine, EdD, ATC Research Investigator, Department of Veterans Affairs, Rehabilitation Research & Development National Center of Excellence for Medical Consequences of Spinal Cord Injury | Dr. Michael La Fountaine received his Doctoral Degree in Applied Physiology from Columbia University in 2008. His current research agenda is focused on developing a more robust appreciation for how genetic variability of autonomic receptors, and their subtypes, contribute to cardiovascular autonomic control in otherwise healthy humans, and that which may occur in response to different models of neurological trauma (e.g., traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury). His past and recent work describes the pathogenesis of autonomic dysfunction in response to acute (e.g., concussion, mild traumatic brain injury) and chronic (e.g., spinal cord injury) neurological trauma. Dr. LaFountaine received the Researcher of the Year Award in the School of Health and Medical Sciences (2014, 2018) at Seton Hall University, and the New Investigator Award (2013) in the American College of Sports Medicine. He was recently elevated to Fellow status in the American College of Sports Medicine (2018). |
