JKO DHA US1299 Trauma-Informed Treatment of Sexual Assault for Mental Health Providers

This required training for Military Health System mental health providers reviews the requirements outlined in DoD 6310.09 while equipping participants with practical guidance on delivering trauma-informed, evidence-based care. It also offers detailed recommendations for documenting disclosures of sexual assault to support consistent, high-quality clinical practice.

You must complete DHA-US1299 Trauma-Informed Treatment Training for Mental Health Providers in the DHA Learning Management System (JKO) to claim CE/CME credit. You will receive the access code to claim CE/CME credit on the “How to Obtain CE” slide upon completing the activity in JKO.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, social workers, psychologists, and certified counselors across the Military Health System. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

  1. Define sexual assault, abuse, and categories of reporting.
  2. Summarize key policy, describe behavioral health care provider responsibilities and mandatory reporting requirements.
  3. Explain how to appropriately address the patient’s behavioral health needs using evidence-based treatment.
  4. Identify gender-sensitive, inclusive and trauma-informed approaches to care.
  5. Implement recommendations for protective documentation of sexual assault and summarize clinically-relevant exceptions to military rules of evidence.
  6. Encapsulate available support and resources for individuals who disclose sexual trauma.
  7. Identify vicarious trauma and describe health provider self-care strategies.

CE/CME certificates are awarded to MHS participants who fully complete the activity, successfully submit the evaluation survey, and pass the posttest with a minimum score of 80%.
