Orthopedic Physician Assistant Introductory Course – Fort Carson
This course provides a beyond entry level introduction to orthopedic medicine, and covers 4 of the 65D Individual Critical Task Lists which includes treating traumatic pelvic injuries, extremity fractures, crush injuries, and traumatic wounds. The training establishes and reviews didactic and clinical knowledge required by Physician Assistants for the evaluation and treatment of patients with chronic, acute, urgent, or emergent orthopedic conditions and covers musculoskeletal examination, diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries along with hands-on training for ultrasound guided examinations and injections, splinting, and surgical first assisting.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physician associates/physician assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Develop an evidence-based approach to the evaluation and management of emergency, acute, and chronic orthopedic conditions across clinical settings.
- Apply core orthopedic medicine principles to assess and manage trauma patients, including comprehensive musculoskeletal examination, fracture and dislocation reduction techniques, and casting/splinting strategies.
- Interpret diagnostic imaging and perform joint aspiration and injection procedures with and without image guidance to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in orthopedic care.
