Training to Competence, not Compliance: Feedback in Clinical Training

April 17, 2026

This workshop explores how supervisors/trainers can provide better feedback to trainees. Specifically, it looks at ways to develop feedback based on competency, not stylistic preferences. The workshop is designed for Mental Health providers currently in training/supervisory roles. There is an overall lack of standardization of trainee feedback in our profession, and this workshop aims to equip supervisors with practical tools to begin narrowing this gap.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Compare competency-based supervision to "supervision as usual".
  2. Develop an Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) chart.
  3. Utilize EPAs to help establish behavioral rubrics for clinical supervision of trainees.
  4. Apply the principles learned to deliberate practice and faculty development.
