2026 Department of Mental Health In-Service: Tools and Strategies to Optimize Healthcare Delivery and Enhance Readiness

This in-service training focuses on interactive, trauma-informed learning by exploring grief related to suicide and understanding impacts on survivors. It addresses the impact of suicide loss, specifically in the military population. It will also explore different body systems involved in mental health diagnoses and name non-medicinal treatments.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

Bridging Mental and Medical Health

  1. Summarize connections between medical and mental health.
  2. Compare how the brain and body affect each other.
  3. Differentiate different body systems involved in mental health diagnoses and name non-medicinal treatments.

Grief Counseling: Working with Suicide Loss Survivors

  1. Summarize the psychological and cultural impact of suicide loss in the military population.
  2. Apply evidence-based counseling and postvention practices through the implementation of a practical counseling roadmap.
  3. Identify ways to support survivors’ coping and resilience.
