TBICoE: Progressive Return to Activity Following Acute Concussion/Mild Traumatic Brain Injury 2026

This training reviews the TBICoE Progressive Return to Activity Following Acute Concussion/Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Primary Care for Acute Concussion Management clinical recommendation. The PRA is a stepwise protocol designed to return service members to full duty as quickly and safely as possible after concussion. This activity educates providers on using the PRA algorithm to progress patients through the stages of the protocol, manage identified symptoms, prescribe recommended treatment, and conduct return to duty screenings to return patients to full duty or pre-injury activity following a concussion. The presentation combines didactic lecture, group discussion, and case scenarios.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, and athletic trainers. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the rationale for using the Progressive Return to Activity (PRA) protocol for all service members post-concussion.
  2. Summarize the criteria for progression through the PRA protocol following a concussion.
  3. Describe appropriate activities at each stage of progression.
  4. Apply primary care management strategies and specialty referral considerations to treat concussed service members who are not progressing as expected.
  5. Recognize that accurate documentation and coding are essential for continuity of care.
