Winn ACH Grand Rounds: Educational Developmental Intervention Services
The Educational Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) program is a valuable resource to both Winn ACH and the Ft. Stewart Community at large. Unfortunately, despite robust outreach efforts, most of the providers at Winn ACH are unaware of the EDIS program or its benefits to their patients. This presentation is meant to bridge that knowledge gap and increase collaboration of resources. In addition, it is intended to increase a provider’s overall understanding of the style of intervention which the EDIS program uses. Research has shown that the provision of high-quality and family-focused functional intervention, which is embedded into a family’s daily routine and delivered in the home environment, increases the long-term efficacy of early intervention therapies. However, because the delivery of services occurs in the home environment and not in a clinic-based setting, there are many misperceptions about EDIS services and the work EDIS providers do. The EDIS clinic offers free home-based intervention therapies to families who have children between the ages of birth to three with developmental delays or an identified medical condition which predisposes them to delays. Embedded video content in the presentation will assist with overall understanding of intervention concepts.
