Introduction to Perinatal Mental Health and Its Impact on Mission Readiness
This course is intended for civilian entities providing care for Active duty and veteran/retired military Special Operations Forces and their families and provider providing direct care to the same. The aim is to improve understanding of common trends in mental health among Special Operations Forces and Military Dependent Children and arm providers and care providing entities with knowledge to better provider care.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, social workers, and psychologists.
Learning Objectives
- Identify who is part of the perinatal population.
- Review perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
- Understand the risk of untreated perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
- Discuss additional risk factors for the military population.
- Examine the role of medication in treating the perinatal population.
- Select appropriate assessments to screen for a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder.
- Utilize different modalities to treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
