Royal Air Force Lakenheath Annual Dental CE Day 2025

Program Description

US Air Force Dentists from Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, RAF Croughton, RAF Alconbury and Ministry of Defence will come together on 23 April 2025 to attend a day of dental continuing education activities. General dentists in military dental treatment facilities provide a wide range of treatments, including general dentistry, surgical procedures, periodontics, and endodontics. This activity aims to improve patient outcomes by improving providers’ knowledge of specialty care, including complications, treatment modalities and underlying etiologies.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

Detrimental Effects of Mouth Breathing on Overall Health – 60 minutes

  1. Define “mouth breathing”.
  2. Explain the negative implications associated with chronic mouth breathing.
  3. Screen patients for chronic mouth breathing habits.

Inferior Alveolar Nerve Injury – 60 minutes

  1. Define the different types of neuropathic responses.
  2. Identify the etiology of Inferior Alveolar Nerve (IAN) injury.
  3. Describe treatment modalities for neuropathic pain cases.

Diagnosis of Endodontic Disease – 60 minutes

  1. Diagnose endodontic pathology via clinical exam (subjective and objective) and radiographic exam.
  2. Describe pulpal and periapical diagnostic terminology.
  3. Explain non-endodontic disease entities.

Global Health Engagement – 60 minutes

  1. Identify how Global Health Engagement supports US national security policy and defense security cooperation strategy.
  2. Explain the strategic value of Global Health Engagement.
  3. Describe how full time dental IHS positions are assigned.

Mini-Screw Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion – 60 minutes

  1. Explain what Mini-screw Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (MARPE) is.
  2. Explain when the MARPE technique may be utilized.
  3. Differentiate between different techniques to achieve palatal expansion.

Immediate Implant Placement – 60 minutes

  1. Define immediate implant terminology.
  2. Explain the history of immediate implants.
  3. List advantages and disadvantages of immediate implants.
  4. Identify indications and contraindications for immediate implants.
  5. Describe surgical considerations for immediate implant cases.

Behavior Management of Children – 60 minutes

  1. Define behavior management.
  2. Classify types of behavior.
  3. Apply behavior management techniques.
