Dr. Drew Helmer is the Deputy Director & Professor at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Affairs Medical Center & Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Helmer is an expert in the effects of military exposures and deployment.

Dr. Helmer obtained his Medical Degree and Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management at Columbia University and trained as a general internist and primary care researcher at Baylor College of Medicine.

He was a champion for the revisions to the Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Chronic Multisymptom Illness in 2014 and 2021 and serves as member of the Gulf War Veterans’ Illnesses Research Advisory Committee to the US Secretary of Veteran Affairs.
