Andrew Morgenstern, O.D., F.A.A.O., F.N.A.P.
Andrew Morgenstern, OD FAAO FNAP is the contract Optometric Subject Matter Expert for the United States Defense Health Agency, J-9, Vision Center of Excellence located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He is also the Interim Director and Methodologist of the Clinical Resources Group that develops the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines for the American Optometric Association. The most recent guideline being Eye Care of the Patient with Diabetes Mellitus, 2nd Ed.. Dr. Morgenstern has served as the Co-Chair of the Ophthalmologic Disease Management Clinical Sub-Committee for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) Episode-Based Resource Use Measures.
He is a graduate of Boston University (B.S.), Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry (O.D., Clinical Honors) and completed his training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI) at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Morgenstern has special clinical interest in corneal refractive surgery; corneal ectatic disease and treatment; visual dysfunction associated with traumatic brain injury and diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Morgenstern is the Past President of the Optometric Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Society (OCCRS), Past President of the Maryland Optometric Association (MOA), Co-Founder and Executive Board Member of the International Keratoconus Academy of Eye Care Professionals (IKA) and Chief Medical Editor Emeritus of Advanced Ocular Care and Collaborative Eye. He is currently adjunct clinical faculty at the Uniformed Services University and Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. In 2019, Dr. Morgenstern was the recipient of the Orion Award, the highest honor that the Armed Forces Optometric Society (AFOS) can bestow for most significant contributions to the advancement of AFOS and Optometry.
