Cecilia Mikita, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.A.A.I.
COL (Ret) Cecilia Mikita earned her Masters in Public Health at Boston University in 1995 and her Medical Degree at the Uniformed Services University in 1999. She completed her pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in 2002 and her allergy/immunology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in 2004. Dr. Mikita is currently the Medical Director for the North Atlantic Region Vaccine Safety Hub, Immunization Healthcare Division, Defense Health Agency – Public Health. She has been core clinical teaching faculty in the National Capital Consortium Allergy-Immunology Fellowship for over 19 years.
She deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-09 and served with the 520th Medical Company in Baghdad, Iraq. Dr. Mikita transitioned the Army Reserves in 2011 and retired in 2021 after 26 years of service.
Dr. Mikita has held numerous leadership positions including the Associate Program Director of the National Capital Consortium Allergy-Immunology Fellowship, Program Director of the Army Medical Department (AMEDDC&S) Allergy and Immunizations Program, WRAMC Intern Director, and Chief of Clinical Services. Nationally, she is a Fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) and has held several leadership positions in AAAAI and other national societies. An Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the USU, she is the author or co-author of 29 peer-reviewed articles, 6 book chapters, 25+ published abstracts, 30+ poster presentations, 50+ extramural presentations, and 18 research protocols.
Dr. Mikita’s academic accolades include the Army Medical Department 9A Proficiency Designator Award, the Claire L. Chennault Award, WRNMMC Master Clinician recognition, the WRAMC Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award, and a 2021 MHS JOES Provider of the Region award. Her military awards include the AMEDD Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3), Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Campaign Star, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
COL(Ret.)Mikita is happily married to Dr. Jeffrey Mikita, a retired Army pulmonary/critical care/sleep medicine physician. They live in Bethesda, Maryland with their children, John (senior at Villanova Business School), Sasha (sophomore at Bryn Mawr College), and their Havanese dog, Rocky.
