Jeffrey Smith, DSW, LCSW, MEd, BCD, DipACLM, ACLM

Major Jeffrey J. Smith is a distinguished Behavioral Scientist and a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force, currently serving as the
Director of Psychological Health for the 1st Special Operations Medical Readiness Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida. In this capacity, he acts as the lead mental health consultant guiding readiness for 20,100 personnel across four Wings and 24 Squadrons and 46 tenant units. He also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and was appointed Vice Chair of the Air Force Surgeon General’s Lifestyle & Performance Medicine (L&PM) Working Group in February 2026. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Director of Behavioral Medicine for Graduate Education in the Family Medicine Residency, David Grant Medical Center, 60 Air Mobility Wing, Travis Air Force Base California where he supported the primary care needs of DGMC's 500,000-beneficiary catchment are and was responsible for teaching and consulting Family Medicine Residents, Physicians, Medical Students, and other Allied Healthcare Professionals to treat patients and families on emotional and psychosocial issues. Maj Smith commissioned in the Air Force in July 2007. He completed Commissioned Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Since then, he has served in Military Treatment Facilities across 5 Major Commanders as an Educator, Biomedical Sciences Corps Executive Officer, Mental Health Flight Commander, and Master Clinician and Researcher. Maj Smith also served in Operational ENDURING FREEDOM as the Officer in Charge of Combat
Operational Stress Control, Paktya Province, Afghanistan, and led as Officer in Charge of Behavioral Health for Joint Medical Task Force Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic Relief in California at the Request of the Health and Human Services Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He graduated from Syracuse University in New York in 2004, earned his Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2021, and earned a Master in Education in Health Professions Education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health
Sciences in 2026. He holds an independent license in Clinical Social Work and is double board certified in Clinical Social Work and Lifestyle Medicine, and fellow of Lifestyle Medicine, American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
