Dr. Amy B. Adler is a clinical research psychologist and senior scientist with the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). She obtained a B.A. in economics from Brown University and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kansas. After a clinical internship and a fellowship in Chicago, Dr. Adler served as a clinical psychologist in military health clinics in Germany, as an instructor with the University of Maryland-European Division, and as a research psychologist with WRAIR’s unit in Heidelberg, Germany, eventually transitioning to WRAIR’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.

Dr. Adler has authored more than 175 articles and chapters, served as lead editor or co-editor on seven books, including Deployment Psychology (2011) and Anger at Work (2021), and held the position of associate editor for Military Psychology and the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. She received the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Mentor award, the Distinguished Service award from The Military Health Systems Research Symposium, and the Distinguished Service award from The Technical Cooperation Program. She is a fellow with the American Psychological Association’s Society for Military Psychology.

Dr. Adler’s research interests include developing easily-fielded emotion regulation techniques, health-promoting leadership strategies, and peer-based management of acute stress in high-stakes operations.
