Primary duties include a full-time position as a Board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner working in the OBGYN Clinic providing care to active duty, dependent and retired beneficiaries as well as trauma patients involved in a sexual assault. I provide GYN care to include well women exams, contraception, STD screening, GYN problem visits, and colposcopy/abnormal pap follow up services to my patient population across the lifespan. I provide reproductive health services to males as well. I perform approximately 1500 to 2000 pelvic exams annually as well as hundreds of GYN procedures in the outpatient clinic setting. I precept family medicine residents, Nurse Practitioner students, and Physician Assistant students in the care and treatment of gyn patients. As a collateral duty, I also provide sexual assault exams to female and male victims of IPV through the Emergency Department. Additionally, I perform suspect exams. I am a credentialed Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Adult and Adolescent patients through the International Association of Forensic Nurses since 2010. I have been the sexual assault Medical Forensic Program Manager at NMRTC Camp Lejeune since 2008 and brought up 24/7 Emergency Department coverage for sexual assault and suspect exams in 2009. I have performed more than 400 exams at this facility since 2008 and have supervised in excess of 500 cases/simulations during that same time period. I supervise the training and orientation of sexual assault medical forensic examiners (SAMFEs) at NMRTC Camp Lejeune, coordinate the SAMFE watch bill, review the records of all sexual assault exams done at the facility, write and assist with implementation of sexual assault policy and procedure at the local level as well as the regional and DHA level. I am a member of the DHA Forensic Healthcare Advisory Committee and am currently assisting with the writing of DHA protocols related to forensic healthcare. I am chairperson for the expert witness testimony group. I participate in the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River Case Management meetings. I am a member of the Community Sexual Assault Response Team which is comprised of the military and local community stakeholders responsible for responding to and addressing sexual assault/interpersonal violence issues in the area. I take an average of 168 hours of on-call for sexual assault exams at this facility monthly. Until 2015, I coordinated and taught the SANE-A training course here at NMRTC Camp Lejeune. Currently I am guest faculty at Joint Base San Antonio for the SAMFE Training program administrated by the Army as well as a remote preceptor for clinical training related to the program. I also train military JAG officers how to utilize the SAMFE in their cases. I provide expert witness consultation and testimony for sexual assault cases and women’s health issues in the miliary for both defense and prosecution. Additionally, I lectured to NCIS agents on sexual assault examination at the Federal Training Facility in Brunswick, GA.
