John Davison, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Dr. John Davison is the Chief of the Clinical Communities Policy Support Section in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Director for Medical Affairs within the Defense Health Agency. He leads a team of clinical subject matter experts, program integrators and policy developers who implement Clinical Process Improvement initiatives as part of the Military Health System (MHS) efforts to become a High Reliability Organization. Dr. Davison is also the Co-lead for the Clinical Operations functional capability as part of the DHA transition to assume authority, direction and control of the Military Treatment Facilities. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Dr. Davison began his career as a U.S. Naval Flight Officer on the A-6 Intruder. After leaving the military, Dr. Davison received his MBA and a doctoral degree as a Clinical Psychologist from Auburn University, completing his residency and post-doctoral training at VA Puget Sound Healthcare System in Seattle, WA. His subsequent work as a staff psychologist at VA Puget Sound and as the Chief of Behavioral Public Health at VA Central Office focused on behavioral factors impacting medical conditions and clinical outcomes. Dr. Davison began working for the Military Health System in 2009, first as a contractor with Booz Allen Hamilton supporting Force Health Protection and Readiness, then as the Director of the Behavioral Medicine Division within TRICARE Management Activity in 2012. His past appointments include serving as the first Chair of the MHS Behavioral Health Clinical Community; the DoD Co-Chair of the DoD/VA Psychological Health Workgroup; the DoD Co-Lead for the White House’s Mental Health Interagency Task Force; and the DoD ex-officio member of the National Institute of Mental Health’s (NIMH) National Mental Health Advisory Council.
