US Army Special Operations Command Workshop: Lifecycle of a Special Operations Forces Soldier and Retention and Deployment Standards

The presentation focuses on the lifecycle of a special operations forces (SOF) operator and explores the unique stressors, health trends, and intervention strategies for this population. It also explores retention and deployment standards to assist care entities in understanding the impact of diagnoses and medication treatment. When: The presentation will take place on August 12, 2025 from 1100-1230 EST. Where: Virtual MS Teams Link to be provided. Why: The presentation aims to enhance understanding of the role of purpose and cumulative stress experienced by SOF operators, identify common trends and risks, and recommend early intervention strategies to mitigate long-term health impacts, thereby maintaining operational readiness and well-being. It also describes key consideration in diagnosis and treatment that can impact retention and the ability to deploy for active duty servicemembers.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

  1. Explain the changing role of purpose throughout a career in SOF and how it relates to health trends and risk.
  2. Define common mental and physical health trends that result from cumulative stress.
  3. Identify interventions that address risks and common trends.
