TeamSTEPPS® Train-the-Trainer Course 2025-2026
TeamSTEPPS® is foundational to driving high reliability into procedures and processes to establish, maintain, and improve a culture of safety across an organization and throughout the DHA. This virtual and in-person course will address the identification and implementation of TeamSTEPPS® tools and strategies to minimize and eliminate communication barriers and improve team performance and patient safety. This activity produces Instructor Trainers qualified to facilitate both Train the Trainer and Train the Staff classes, provides resources for training other TeamSTEPPS® courses, and ensures that participants gain the knowledge and training required to implement and coach the behaviors that achieve positive results.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
Day 1
- Describe the TeamSTEPPS® (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) training course.
- Identify the roles of patients and family caregivers within the care team.
- Outline TeamSTEPPS® tools and strategies that can improve a team’s communication.
- Apply the tools for leading teams to specific clinical scenarios.
- Explain situation awareness and identify approaches to maximize it.
- Outline conflict resolution strategies.
- Demonstrate how to appropriately apply the tools and strategies in clinical scenarios.
Day 2
- Explain measurement’s role in successful implementation.
- Identify why many TeamSTEPPS® implementations fail.
- Discuss the four different levels of measurement to determine the effectiveness of any training intervention.
- Develop a TeamSTEPPS® Implementation Plan.
- Outline how to implement coaching in TeamSTEPPS®.
- Identify errors common to organizational change.
- Elicit and provide feedback on knowledge of tools and strategies and teaching style.

This activity is designated for 12.75 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until Monday, November 30, 2026 - 11:59pm ET. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

DHA, J-7, CEPO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing education. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers will be provided a certificate of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers may receive a maximum of 12.75 hours for completing this Course activity.

By attending this program offered by DHA, J-7, CEPO, participants may earn up to 12.75 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Qualified Education hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation. Participants in this program who wish to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit must self-report their participation. To self-report, participants must log into their MyACHE account and select ACHE Qualified Education Credit.

In support of improving patient care, DHA, J-7, CEPO is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team. This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 12.75 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
Requirements: CE/CME certificates are awarded to participants who fully complete the activity, successfully submit the evaluation survey, and pass the posttest. The deadline to claim credit is Nov 30, 2026.
