Interdisciplinary Approach to Care: A Look at TBI Care Through the Lens of Total Force Fitness

March 28, 2024

Program Description

Traumatic brain injury can cause a variety of symptoms affecting the physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning of those diagnosed. If not properly addressed, TBI can present complex and challenging problems for service members. This activity, hosted by the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence, will explore the domains of total force fitness to understand how this framework can support optimal treatment and recovery from TBI. Those in attendance will learn about emerging evidence supporting the role of nutrition in TBI recovery. Additionally, presenters will review how integrating movement and acupuncture can support TBI symptom management. This activity will highlight how creative arts therapies can address social, physical, and psychological domains, improving physical, emotional, and cognitive functioning. Finally, learners will be able to recognize that moral injury may be impacting the spiritual health of warfighters and that appropriate identification and treatment are necessary.
