EXCEL Capstone Course for MHS Leaders, 18-21 NOV 2024
Program Description:
The EXCEL Capstone Course is a pinnacle educational event for senior leaders in the Military Health System (MHS). Speakers include but are not limited to the Service Surgeons General, senior leaders and staff from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Director DHA, the Surgeon General of the U.S., and the Department of Veterans Affairs. They present the most current information on issues such as hot topic health issues, HRO, TRICARE, military transformation, policy, and legislation.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, dentists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Summarize the responsibilities and functions of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.
- Identify the top priorities of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Leadership.
- Summarize how to effectively communicate the role, mission and value of the Military Health System (MHS) and its components to a wide variety of audiences.
- Recognize strategies used by the Department of Defense (DoD) to maintain information security controls.
- Discuss issues of retention and recruitment from the military and national perspectives as well as financial and business matters as they relate to the MHS.
- Explain current and future medical requirements in support of the National Defense Strategy.
- Describe the status of MHS Genesis and opportunities for optimization.
- Explain the concepts of Ready Reliable Care (RRC) and High Reliability Organization (HRO).
- Discuss how advancements in technology contribute to a more lethal, resilient, and rapidly innovating Joint Force.
- Explain the capabilities of the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Healthcare Operations (HCO).
- Identify the enlisted force’s role in supporting the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) Commander/Director’s goal and aims within a respective network or region.
- Recognize roadblocks to effective communication based on audience.

- 16.50 Healthcare Executives (ACHE)By attending this program offered by DHA, J-7, CEPO, participants may earn up to 16.50 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Qualified Education hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation. Participants in this program who wish to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit must self-report their participation. To self-report, participants must log into their MyACHE account and select ACHE Qualified Education Credit.

DHA, J-7, CEPO is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. In support of improving patient care, DHA, J-7, CEPO is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team. This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 16.50 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
