Program Description


American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support Review Course (2.5 clock hours)

The American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Review Course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize, and care for pediatric patients who are experiencing a respiratory emergency, shock, or cardiac emergency. The course emphasizes providing high-quality patient care by integrating psychomotor skills, rhythm interpretation, electrical interventions, and pharmacologic knowledge with critical thinking and problem-solving to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, psychologists, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, registered dieticians, and dietetic technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate high-quality basic life support (BLS) skills, including high-quality chest compressions, effective ventilation, and the use of an AED.
  2. Apply concepts of effective teamwork when caring for a pediatric patient experiencing or a respiratory emergency, shock, or cardiac emergency.
  3. Integrate advanced communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills when responding as part of a team to a respiratory emergency, shock, or cardiac emergency.
  4. Apply a systematic, continuous approach to assess, recognize, and care for a pediatric patient experiencing a respiratory emergency, shock, or cardiac emergency.
  5. Effectively assess, recognize, and care for a pediatric patient experiencing respiratory or cardiac arrest.
  6. Quickly recognize the nature of a respiratory emergency, shock, or cardiac emergency.
  7. Provide effective and appropriate pediatric advanced life support care to address a respiratory emergency or shock.
  8. Provide effective and appropriate care after a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during a resuscitation effort.

    DHA J-7 CEPO has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 2.50 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until Wednesday, December 31, 2025 - 11:59pm ET. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
