Program Description: 

This enduring material is designed to bring multiple disciplines together to learn and create complementary patient centered care that improves the overall health of our patient population. The course examines the connection of plant-based nutrition with a variety of health conditions. Several studies supporting the positive impact of plant-based nutrition on cancer (CA), diabetes mellitus (DM), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and weight management outcomes were presented.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, registered dieticians, dietetic technicians, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize the relationship between plant-based diet indices and prostate cancer risk.
  2. Explain the potential associations of three plant-based indices with the risk of pancreatic cancer in the US population.
  3. Discuss the relation between different plant-based diets and weight change.
  4. Describe the relation between adherence to Mediterranean Diet (MD) and incidence of diabetes as the outcome.
  5. Illustrate the effect a plant-based diet has on cardiovascular disease outcomes.
  6. Outline the effect of food choices on planetary health.
  7. Identify plant-based food sources.
