2024 Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence Annual Brain Health Symposium
Program Description
In recognition of Brain Injury Awareness Month across the Department of Defense, TBICoE is hosting the second annual virtual Brain Health Symposium in March 2024. The symposium will improve health care providers’ ability to identify, care for, and treat service members and veterans whose health and performance are impacted by traumatic brain injuries and blast exposures. Presenters from the national non-profit, Home Base Program, will discuss TBI, acute stress disorder/combat operational stress reactions, and posttraumatic stress disorder, and what current treatments are available and related research. Subject matter experts from Naval Medical Center San Diego and the Naval Health Research Center will discuss the intersection of functional neurological disorder and post-concussive syndrome and the health consequences of low-level blast exposure. Lastly, attendees will be briefed on TBICoE’s recently updated, “Assessment and Management of Headache Following Concussion/Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Guidance for the Primary Care Manager” clinical recommendation; learning how to identify and treat common post-traumatic headache subtypes.
